Writing advice

Below are some of the things I've learned from years of writing, years of learning, years of failure, and finally being published. These aren't rules: individual hints and tips might work for you, while others won't. Through practice, you'll develop your own core set of habits to help you achieve what you want from your writing.

I'd encourage you to read as many things like this as possible: I found it hugely helpful (and enjoyable) to soak in others' creative processes. I'd also recommend listening to the excellent archive of podcasts from Radio 4's Books and Authors and World Book Club, The Guardian Books Podcast, The Word Monkeys, Apple's Meet the Authorand my wonderful publisher's own podcast, The Penguin Podcast.
